yesterday there was a small fire detected just west of LaSal Utah at the base of the LaSal mountains. local firefighters responded and blm stayed through the night. they thought they had it out then today it started again and with the wind and dry conditions it has really picked up and is still burning. so far it is climbing farther up the mountain. there are several homes that will be in danger if it changes direction. my daughter and her family live there and lost their home to a fire in the same location so we are a bit nervous.

This happened Thursday Jan 10th 2013 in the middle of 30 Road. Apparently a repossessed blue Suv has broken away from the double decker trailer it was being hauled upon. The SUV was balancing on its receiver hitch and tail pipe. The front wheels are on the end of the track above the semi- truck. The semi-truck is unscathed. I don't know how they can get it down without damaging the truck or semi. Phone or power lines are over head. the SUV is leaning a little to the left and could pivot. I hope KREX can show how they get it down. I couldn't stay any longer and watch for a solution.

Two days after a power outage struck the Sunlight Peak broadcast tower farm near Glenwood Springs, KREG, the CBS affiliate owned by Hoak Media is still off the air. Little KDNK community radio was also blacked out but was up and running soon after the power outage struck. KREG, however, owned by media veteran and multi millionaire Jim Hoak of Dallas, is still dark.

When avid and helpful CBS viewers called KREX offices in Grand Junction to alert the station management of the dark signal, they were told to "rescan your TV channels,"... a standard "it's not our problem... you must be doing something stupid" answer usually associated with cable company technical inquiries.

One regular KREG viewer said they would be contacting the FCC tomorrow if the signal, broadcast on public airwaves, was not in service as required by KREG and KREX broadcast licenses.

New State DUI website launches

Denver, CO – With holiday parties in full swing, the state has launched a new tool to help Coloradans make safer choices before getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. A new statewide DUI resource website, No DUI Colorado (www.NoDUIColorado.org), was developed by state agencies on the Persistent Drunk Driver (PDD) Committee to help individuals make better decisions regarding impaired driving and substance abuse behaviors.
The website aims to provide a wealth of information and DUI-related resources for at-risk individuals, family members and friends needing support, professionals working in alcohol and drug prevention, and even policymakers who need to get up-to-speed on DUI topics.
“Getting a DUI is a life-changing event. This website will serve as a guide to those who have received a DUI to assist them in navigating the criminal and driver's license process, as well as provide them with resources to help them avoid repeating the same mistake,” said Glenn Davis, PDD Committee member and manager of Impaired Driving Programs at the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Information on the website follows a comprehensive three-step approach to address DUIs by providing resources that can be helpful in preventing a DUI, information on what happens after a DUI arrest, and providing statewide resources that are community specific, as well as assistance in finding national resources.
A total of 98 participating law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Colorado State Patrol, police agencies and sheriff's departments, have arrested 1274 drivers for DUI since the holiday season crackdown began Nov. 22. In addition, preliminary reports show 19 people have been killed in traffic crashes in Colorado so far this holiday season; seven of those fatalities occurred in alcohol-related crashes. In 2010, approximately 987 drivers received a DUI in Boulder County. The average blood alcohol content (BAC) recorded was 0.16.
“Our goal is to reduce traffic fatalities caused by impaired drivers, and we hope this website will help us achieve that by deterring people from making bad decisions that result in a DUI arrest or worse,” said Col. James Wolfinbarger, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol. “The website provides alternative transportation options, along with a sober party planning guide with tips on how to get home safely after celebrating. There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel after drinking. You will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Not only will Coloradans find user-friendly information such as navigating the complexities of the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) and courts process on the new website, but they can also use an interactive Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) calculator, take surveys, find the latest DUI-related news and see where their neighborhood stacks up with a statewide DUI/DWAI county statistics map. Other useful features include downloadable BAC phone apps, brochures and a step-by-step healthy habits plan to help avoid future alcohol and drug-related impairment problems.
"A typical DUI arrest involves both a criminal charge and a revocation of driving privileges. Few people realize that they can lose their driving privileges regardless of what happens in court,” said Charles (Steve) Hooper, PDD Committee member and Colorado Department of Revenue Operations Director. “This website describes both processes and the severe penalties for impaired driving. A careful look should convince anyone that a DUI is something to avoid."
The PDD Committee was formed as part of the Persistent Drunk Driver Act of 1998. Several state agencies make up the Committee, including the Colorado Department of Human Services, State Judicial Branch, Department of Transportation and the Department of Revenue. The committee is charged with developing and implementing programs to deter persistent drunk and drug-related driving, as well as provide public education. A persistent drunk driver is defined as someone with two or more alcohol or drug related driving violations or someone with a BAC of .17 or higher, even if it’s their first offense.

Hi,

It was quite a sight this morning watching the moon go into eclipse as it set in the WNW, starting around 6 AM.

At the time I took this photo (w/telephoto lens), the moon was almost all the way into the total eclipse phase. It was well into twilight by then, and was about a dozen minutes before sunrise. The moon's elevation then was less than two degrees.

The slendering sliver was visible about another 15 minutes in my photos, but you have to know where to look in the trees.

If you turn the picture upside down you can see "the rabbit in the moon" fairly easily!

Feel free to use on your broadcast.

The local Delta Police were very busy on Tuesday morning only to find a larg amount of automobiles vandalized in a Hud Housing community off of Bluff Street. Heather Baetz of Delta called the police when she noticed that her passenger window was broken and her purse was taken from her car. Heather did have her car locked up. The police noticed bee-bees on the ground mixed with broken glass. After the police wrote up their report they took a walk around the complex only to find many many more automobiles broken into. One was the Hud Housing Company Truck. We urge you to keep your eyes and ears open to any information you might have and please contact the Delta Police Department. The Automobiles were owned from people in the low income community. These people do not have the money to replace their windows or fix their broken doors and windows.
