CHS Service Learning Hosts 5k Oct. 15

Group of high school students dedicated to making a difference in their community host a walk to raise awareness/ funding for their cause.
Grand Junction, CO October 15, 2011 (3:30pm): Participants must arrive at 3:30pm at the Central High School parking lot ready to walk an approximately three mile course that will begin and end at CHS. All ages are welcome to walk in an effort to promote a healthy environment. No registration is required. Participating CHS students will carry marked bags that will be filled up with recyclable and non-recyclable items collected along the way. Donations will be accepted. Individuals with questions can:

Proceeds from the event benefit the Central High School Service Learning program, in which kids are given the opportunity to develop and execute projects that tackle an authentic need they see in their world. Examples of projects this year are: PACT, in which High School students hosted a leadership conference for Middle School students; Warrior Closet, in which students collected clothing donations from the community and hosted a day where families could take the apparel they needed free of charge; and an Awareness Movie Night on sex trafficking in Russia.
