My name is Mason Galloway. I am a fourteen year old honors student, starting high school next year. My mom, who works full time and is currently in college, is in somewhat of a financial crisis right now, and does not have any form of dental insurance. Before I tell you about her, let me tell you the story.
It was on a weekend, a warm, sunny afternoon. My dad, along with my sister, were planning on getting outdoors to do something active, and wanted me to come with them. We decided we wanted to play baseball. We went out to one of the schools around our house and played catch for a while. It was just a simple game of catch. But after a while of throwing the ball around, I decided to get lazy, and, eventually, it happened. My sister threw the ball, and I saw it coming straight towards me. I slowly moved my arm to catch it, but I was too slow. The ball hit me right in the tooth, also bringing my lip in contact with my it, cutting it open. I didn’t feel much of it, but I put my hand in my mouth to check if it was fine. It wasn’t. My dad asked, “Are you okay?” And I replied grimly, “No, no. My tooth.” He came running over to me, to look, and immediately decided that I needed to go to the ER. I ran to the car, following them and spitting out blood along the way.
I arrived and got my teeth and lips (which needed 3 stitches, by the way) checked out, and they figured since it wasn’t going to come out, they couldn’t do anything about it.
So, that’s my story. I haven’t finished telling you about my mom, however. She works twelve hour shifts, usually three or four days a week. And, on top of that, she has college to go to, almost every day. I hardly ever see her. But the thing is, we don’t have any medical or dental insurance to cover for this, and the procedure for braces can be fairly pricey. By writing this E-mail I’m trying to support her while she’s doing everything she can to support us. I hope you’ll consider me in this contest, I look forward to hearing from you.
