My name is Sharon Johnson. My husband and I are both nearing retirement and in need of a bathroom makeover in a much needed way. The attached photos will give you an idea of what we are dealing with in our inadequate bathroom situation. My husband, Henry, is a disabled veteran with COPD/Emphezema . He is on oxygen 24/7. Consequently he is unable to do any of the needed upkeep repairs that are needed around our house. I try to do some of it myself but just don’t know how and can’t afford to hire anyone to do it for us. I am the only one still able to work in the household and my wages and work hours were recently cut by 10%.
If we should happen to be so lucky as to win this makeover, it will be a “God-sent” to us. I really have no idea of any other way to make our home more comfortable, safe, and more healthy for my husband. I am sure the mold in our present bathroom can’t be good for his condition at all. We would surely appreciate the help if we are chosen for the makeover. Thank you so very very much for the chance to get some help with some much needed repairs on our home.
The house was built in 1959 and the bathroom is very small and cramped.
With regards to the mold, I am sure it is an unhealthy environment for us both. What we really need is something that is specifically geared towards older and handicapped folks. (Maybe something with some hand rails. It is so hard for us to get in and out of the tub as it is now. The tub is stained and outdated. My husband would LOVE a jucuzzi or jetted tub or a walk in shower.)
Picture#1-shows some of the MOLD that goes all around the entire tub.
Picture#2-shows a hole in the ceiling located over the toilet that was caused by a leaky water line that originally ran overhead to the old water cooler, which is no longer in use. There is another similar hole above the tub.
Picture#3–shows the sink with a large rusted area where the enamel has come off. The plug in is also broken and does not work at all. The faucet handles keep coming loose and the whole fixture moves around. Also, our shower faucets in the tub spray water out sideways when on causing water damage to wall & floor. The vinyl floor tiles are all curling up on the edges and we have to use rugs to keep them from tripping us. The cabinets and drawers are warped and worn. I have more and better photos but this site would only let me post 3.
