GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- National criticism aimed at the Department of Veteran Affairs is leading to more attention being focused on the local VA Medical Center.
Senator Mark Udall is urging an investigation into serious claims against the Grand Junction facility made by current and former employees.
In a letter sent to the VA Inspector General's office, Udall says a number of allegations have been brought to his attention, including administrative mismanagement, retaliation against whistle-blowers, and a hostile work environment, causing adverse effects on the health of veterans.
Udall says he has also received reports of substandard infection control procedures and administrators falsifying, or manipulating data to avoid additional oversight.
