CLIFTON, Colo.- A SWAT standoff takes place at a Clifton home Friday afternoon, impacting a nearby school.

Clifton Fire and Rescue, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and the SWAT teams responded to a residence at 32 1/2 Road and Main Street for a wanted suspect.

Authorities suspected the man may have possible weapons in the home, forcing them to lockdown nearby Rocky Mountain Elementary School.

"There were multiple weapons in the home, including possible rifles, assault rifles. At that point, the boundary for the safety of this neighborhood and Rocky Mountain School, that is fairly close, was the biggest concern," explained Heather Benjamin, the PIO for the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect eventually exited the home without incident.
