MESA COUNTY, Colo. – Prescription drug 'take back' events are typically held twice a year so citizens can safely dispose of unused, expired, or unwanted drugs.
While those events are still taking place, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office is now giving residents the chance to get rid of drugs on a regular basis.
Starting Thursday, a green box will be available inside the main lobby of the sheriff's office for citizens to deposit over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
Items can be dropped off during regular business hours, which are currently 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
Among the items that won't be accepted: needles/sharps, aerosol, items containing mercury, oxygen, pressurized canisters, and chemotherapy or radioactive substances.
Some of the items listed above are accepted at the Mesa County Hazardous Waste Collection Facility. More details can be found on its website: www.mesacounty.us/swm. The facility can also be reached directly at (970) 257-9336 or (970) 256-9543.
