Chopper Crashes in Lizard Head Pass Search for Missing Man

TELLURIDE, Colo. - According to a tweet from San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters, a search and rescue mission on Lizard Head Pass was issued Friday night for an 81 year old male cross country skier, when he and his Golden Retriever went missing.

The rescue helicopter sent looking for the man lost power and crashed at 10,000 feet.

No serious injuries to the pilot or sheriff's deputy were reported.

The victim was found deceased approximately three quarters of a mile east of Highway 145 at the top of Lizard Head Pass.

The man's dog, named Buddy, was found guarding his body from coyotes in the area.

Authorities have not released the identification of the man.
