HS Football Playoffs: Montrose, Palisade Advance

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--For the first time in four years, No. 1 Montrose advanced in the Class 4A Playoffs with a 31-25 win over No. 16 Montbello Saturday at Montrose High School.

The Indians (10-1) will host No. 8 Denver South in the second round.

In Class 3A, No. 2 Palisade came from behind to beat No. 15 Lutheran, 35-25, in the opening round Saturday at Stocker Stadium. The Bulldogs (10-1) advance take on The Classical Academy at home.

No. 12 Glenwood Springs and No. 13 Delta pulled off big upsets in the opening round and will face each other next weekend.

The Demons edged out No. 5 Elizabeth 14-13, while the Panthers knocked off No. 4 Holy Family in overtime, 42-41.

Finally, No. 11 Rifle suffered a heartbreaking 34-31 loss to No. 6 Coronado.

In Class 1A, No. 4 Paonia kept it rolling with a 31-15 victory over No. 5 Monte Vista and will face No. 1 Buena Vista in the state semifinals.
