GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 2014 JUCO World Series is down to five teams. Day 4 is in the books, and two more teams were eliminated Tuesday.
Chattahoochee Valley Community College (TN) lost its second consecutive game by mercy rule, falling to Spartanburg Methodist College (SC) 18-3. CVCC is eliminated from its first ever JUCO World Series appearance, while Spartanburg moves on to play Blinn College (TX).
In the second elimination game of the day, Midland College (TX) held off a late rally from Columbia State Community College (TN), winning 10-7. Columbia St. is the fifth team eliminated from the 2014 tournament.
The final game of the night featured two teams from the winners bracket: Blinn vs. Miami Dade College (FL). Miami Dade jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back, as they won by virtue of the mercy rule, defeating Blinn 11-2.
The Buccaneers will face Spartanburg in an elimination game tomorrow at 3:00 pm, and they’ll be followed by Iowa Western Community College and Miami Dade at 7:30 pm.
