GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Pro Bono Project of Mesa County held a free clinic at Grand Junction City hall Thursday regarding the custodial rights of grandparents in Colorado.
Grand Junction attorney Richard E. Lane shared insight on parental responsibilities, grandparent visitation, and procedures to secure these rights.
Lane said people nowadays are watching their grandkids more than before, as part of a change in social structure.
"The biggest confusion I've seen with grandparents regarding rights to their grandchildren is to think they absolutely have none, and that's just not true,” said Lane. “There are a number of ways grandparents can try to enforce rights to see their grandchildren. It may require a little creativity some days, but to think that everything is an absolute closed door is just totally inaccurate."
The clinic did not serve as a substitute for hiring an attorney, but for educational purposes.
