GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The communications and data services company Century Link announced they'll be shutting down a major call center in Grand Junction, impacting dozens of local jobs.
The company told employees Wednesday they have four months before the call center at 800 Main Street will be closing.
Thirty-eight employees must now decide to either move their lives to call centers in Saint Paul, Minnesota or look for another job.
The company said the Grand Junction closing is just a symptom of a larger nationwide consolidation.
“The call center is closing as result of Century Link’s ongoing effort to reduce cost structure, implementing best practices across our company [and] achieving operational efficiencies,” said regional public relations officer Randy Krause.
This call center is primarily for business customers, and it services 14 Midwest states. Calls will now be allocated to other centers.
Officials said customer services will not be affected.
