DENVER- The Colorado Department of Transportation is recognized for its monumental response to a historic event. The Western Association of State Highway and Transportation honored CDOT's 2013 flood response at its annual meeting.
The department won the Quality of Life/Community Development Category Medium-Sized Projects. The project was based on a devastating flood from September 2013 that shut down 27 roads on the state highway system and damaged 120 bridges and 242 miles of roadways across northwestern and eastern Colorado.
The CDOT project now moves into the next round of competition, where eventually, the winning state will receive a $10,000 check to be given to a transportation-related charity or scholarship program of their choice.
