No.4 Colorado Mesa Advances to Elite 8

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-No.4 Colorado Mesa (31-1) advanced to the 2012-2013 NCAA Women's Division II Elite 8 with a 69-65 win over No. 25 Midwestern St. (26-6).

The victory marks the program's first-ever berth in the Elite 8.

Seniors Katrina Selor and Kelsey Sigl were named to the All-Central Region Tournament Team, with Sigl taking home MVP honors.

Sigl finished with a game-high 24 points, while Selsor finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

CMU found themselves down early 19-11 before Bruna Deichmann ignited the Lady Mavs off the bench scoring on back-to-back plays to give CMU a 25-23 lead with just under five minutes to play in the first half. The game was tied at 31 headed into recess and was back and forth for most of the second half.

A Sigl block with under two minutes to play found its way to Effo Baker who got it ahead to Sharaya Selsor for a lay-up putting the Mavericks ahead 66-63.

Midwestern St. simply ran out of time allowing CMU to capture their first Regional Title in program history.

The will now face Dowling College (NY) in Elite 8.
