No. 5 Rangers Defeat Mavericks 3-2

by KREX News Room

DENVER--The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer team took on the first place team in the RMAC and 5th ranked Regis Rangers in Denver on Sunday afternoon.

Regis used three first half goals to take an early 3-0 lead and held on to win 3-2 over the Mavericks. Colorado Mesa falls to 5-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the RMAC while the Rangers improve to 8-0-1 on the season and 6-0 in the RMAC.

Regis scored goals in 22nd and two in the 27th minute to take the early lead.

The Mavericks got on the board late in the 1st half when Skylar Roy scored his first goal of the season. Roy's goal in the 37th minute cut the Ranger lead to 3-1 heading into halftime.

After battling even for 35 minutes in the second half, Maverick Michael Bagheri ripped a shot that found the back of the net in the 81st minute. The goal was Bagheri's first of the season and cut the Rangers lead to 3-2 but that would be as close as they would get.

The Mavericks will continue their road swing this week. They will have a midweek matchup with RMAC rival Fort Lewis in Durango. Then on Friday, they will travel to Alamosa for a matchup with Adams State.
