Mesa Completes Weekend Sweep, Holding Off Western New Mexico 67-57

Grand Junction-Colorado Mesa defeated Western New Mexico, 67 to57 Saturday Night at Brownson Arena, earning the weekend sweep.

Colton Burgon finished with a game high 23 points and added six rebounds in the victory. Burgon was the only Mav in double digits as a balanced scoring attack by CMU resulted in all 11 players scoring at least one point in the contest. Mike Melillo finished with a game high 11 rebounds.

CMU led 30-26 at intermission with the lead changing hands six times in the first half. CMU never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 15 points with 2:42 remaining in regulation.

The Mavericks outrebounded WNMU 45-31 and shot 42 percent (24-57) from the field. CMU was 18 of 27 from the foul line.

WNMU shot 39 percent (24-61) in the game and hit 6 of 14 free throws. The Mustangs were led by Chad Carter's 18 points.

CMU will play its final home regular season game on Saturday versus Western State College. The Mavericks will host Alumni Weekend and Saturday will be Senior Night.
