Mavs Set to Open Renovated Suplizio Field

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Colorado Mesa baseball team will return home to a newly-renovated field with a four-game set against Metro State College this weekend.

"Suplizio has always been our home," manager Chris Hanks said. "I know the kids we recruited, who were expecting to play there, are going to finally get to. And the seniors, of course, on their swan song here they get to finish out."

The Mavericks, ranked 21st by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, have won nine of their last ten games. Additionally, they remain in first place in the RMAC conference with a two-game lead over CSU-Pueblo.

Meanwhile the Roadrunners are in last place in the RMAC Mountain Division.

"Going into this weekend, we have to get that first Friday night win," said senior outfielder Jeff Popick. "And then be able to match it on Saturday and Sunday. After that, we have [CSU] Pueblo which is going to be a big series for the RMAC standings, and after that, anything is possible."

First pitch for game one against Metro State is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
