Mavs Drop Five-Setter to Western New Mexico

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-- Colorado Mesa (9-3, 3-1 RMAC) let a two-set lead slip away on Saturday night against visiting Western New Mexico (5-9, 2-2 RMAC) falling to the Mustangs 25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 16-25, 7-15. The loss snaps CMU's six match win streak.

WNMU won set three 25-21 and never trailed in set four taking a 10-1 lead. CMU pulled to within one point (12-13) before the Mustangs rattled off 12 of the next 16 points to push the match to five sets. CMU won the first point in the final set and never led again as the Mustangs went on back-to-back 5-1 runs; winning the final set 15-7 recording 9 kills, zero errors on 16 attempts.

CMU was led by Melissa Hess' 14 kills and Kelly Regimbal finished with 11 kills. The duo combined for four blocks. Megan Rush tallied 25 digs and Jordyn Moody had 31 assists.

WNMU's Angelina Pulu finished with a game high 24 kills and finished with a team high 24 digs.

CMU will travel to Adams State University on Friday and play at Western State Colorado on Saturday night. CMU returns home on October 5 to host Chadron State College.
