Mavericks Salvage Series Split with Highlands

LAS VEGAS, New Mexico- After dropping the first two games of the series, the Colorado Mesa baseball team claimed the final two games of the series including an 11-3 win on Sunday in Las Vegas, N.M. The Mavericks improved their record to 21-7 and 15-5 in the RMAC while the Cowboys fall to 20-9 and 13-7 in RMAC games.

The Mavericks got a great start from Garrett Carpenter on the mound. Carpenter went 8.0 innings and allowed one run on 3 hits, struck out 5 and walked no one. Carpenter didnt allow a hit until the 6th inning and up to that point, he had only allowed one baserunner. Garrett improved his record to 2-3 on the season.

Dustin Fackrell continued his assault on the Cowboy pitchers on Sunday as he went 4-for-5 with a double, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. On the weekend, Fackrell hit .588 (10-for-17) with 2 doubles, 5 RBIs, and 5 runs scored.

Jeff Popick and Braden Box both had 2 hits in the game also.

With the series split, the Mavericks are deadlocked with CSU-Pueblo in the overall RMAC standings. The ThunderWolves took 3-of-4 games from the Mavericks next opponent, the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers.

The series with the Lopers will begin Thursday at 3:30pm at Canyon View Park. The series will start on Thursday because of the Easter Weekend.
