Mavericks Ink 55 On National Signing Day

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Colorado Mesa Head Football Coach Russ Martin and the Colorado Mesa University coaching staff would like to announce the signing of 49 student-athletes for the 2013 College Football season. The class includes 24 offensive players and 24 players on the defensive side plus one listed as an ‘Athlete’.

We are very pleased with how this class is shaping up. These players will help us move towards the goal of an RMAC Championship and beyond.” Coach Russ Martin said of the class. “The coaching staff worked really hard and did an excellent job identifying these athletes.”

Highlighting the class is Matt Haggerty, Daryl Hawkins, Seth Manzanares and Austin Beswick.

Matt Haggerty is a wide receiver out of Seton Catholic in Chandler, AZ. Haggerty was an All-State receiver and caught 63 passes for over 1,000 yards and 23 total touchdowns. “Matt is a real gamer. He is physical receiver with great hands and possesses great body control” Coach Martin added.

Running Back Daryl Hawkins from State Champion Valor Christian rushed for over 600 yards and eight touchdowns. “Daryl is a phenomenal athlete who has great speed, strength, and vision. Everything you look for in a running back.” Martin said.

Seth Manzanares from Phoenix, AZ is listed as an athlete. “You name it, Seth can do it. He played linebacker, tight end, ran the ball, returned kicks. He is a tremendous athlete with a good range of motion. He can block from the tight end position or make tackles as a linebacker.” Martin stated.

“Austin Beswick is a big, physical lineman who moves really well. Excellent puller who came from a strong program in Monarch” Martin said. Austin Beswick is an offensive lineman.

Jackson Burrell, Tommy Saager, Dan Perse, and Damien Douglas Jr. all signed with Colorado Mesa and come from Colorado powerhouse programs on the Front Range.

Colorado Mesa currently opens the season against Division I-FCS powerhouse Montana State on September 14 in Bozeman, MT.
