Mavericks Get Swept in Regular Season Finale

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Colorado Mesa University baseball was swept in a doubleheader this afternoon by the Colorado Mines Orediggers. The Mavericks lost by scores of 16-11 and 6-0. The losses brought the Colorado Mesa record to 38-12 on the season and 32-8 in the RMAC. Colorado Mines clinched a spot in the RMAC tournament for the first time since 2008 with the wins and brought their season record to 16-28 and 15-25 in the RMAC.

In the first game, the Maverick pitching corps. allowed 16 runs and the Maverick defense committed three errors in a 16-11 loss. The 16 runs is the most CMU has allowed on the season.

Justin Rosales finished the game 3-for-6 with 2 RBIs.

Dylan Evans took the loss on the mound for the Mavericks and falls to 4-2 on the season.

In the regular season finale, the Mavericks were shutout for the first time this season in a 6-0 loss. The Mavericks could only muster 3 hits in the game which was also a season low.

Garrett Carpenter took the loss as he pitched a complete game allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, walked none and struck out 4. He is now 6-4 on the season.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament kicks off on Wednesday in Pueblo. The Mavericks are the #1 seed and will play at 3:30pm on Wednesday. They will be familiar with their opponent as they will square off with the Colorado Mines Orediggers. The winner of the RMAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Central Region Tournament to be played May 17-20.
