Mavericks Advance in RMAC Tournament

by KREX News Room

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Colorado Mesa University baseball advanced in the winner's bracket of the RMAC Tournament with a 13-5 win over the 6th seeded Colorado Mines Orediggers. The win erased a mini two-game skid the Mavericks had against the Orediggers and advenaced to face the loser of the night game between the Regis Rangers and the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves.

RMAC Pitcher of the Year Jared Christensen pitched brilliantly allowing 5 runs on 9 hits walked one and struck out 3 in 8.1 innings of work. Cody Lahman came in and got the final two outs of the ball game and helped Christensen improve to 12-2 on the season.

Jeff Popick was perfect on the day, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Popick also delivered his 16th double of the season.

Colton Little came up with three big hits also. Little drilled a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning and finished the game with 4 RBIs.

Colton Schoelkopf and Tamatoa Demello also had three hits in the win.

NCAA Regional Rankings were released today also and the Mavericks stayed in the #2 slot behind a surprising St. Cloud State. Minnesota State fell to 3rd.
