Maverick Softball Team Earns Bid to Regionals

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Colorado Mesa University softball earned its eighth NCAA Division II Tournament berth under Head Coach Kristin Mort as announced earlier today by the NCAA Softball Tournament Committee. Coach Mort is in her 19th and final season at the helm of the softball program. Mort will become a full time administrator following this season.

CMU will play in the Central 2 Regional Bracket hosted by Augustana College. Central 1 Regional Bracket will be hosted by Minnesota State Mankato. Each region will host a double elimination tournament. The winners of the two Central regional sites will advance to play each other in the Super 3 Regional May 11-12.

CMU (26-22) earned the seventh seed and will play No. 2 seed and host; Augustana (SD) (45-9) on Friday, May 4 at 12:30 (MT) in Sioux Falls, SD. Augustana is one of 16 teams to host a three-day regional tournament. Three RMAC institutions earned Central Region bids. No. 3 seed Winona State (42-9) will play RMAC tournament runner-up, Colorado Christian (31-25) on Friday, May 4 at 10:00 am (MT) in the Central 2 Bracket.

Minnesota State (35-7) is the No. 1 seed in the Central 1 Regional. Minnesota Duluth (37-20) is No. 4, Concordia University, St. Paul (30-21) is No. 5 and Fort Lewis (30-24) is No. 8. Fort Lewis won the RMAC Tournament and received the automatic bid. The Skyhawks will play host Minnesota State Mankato on Friday, May 4 at 12:30 (MT).

The Mavericks have earned eight regional bids in its Division II history (2012, 2010, 2009, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1998, and 1997). In 2000 MSC advanced to the Elite National Tournament in Columbus, Georgia.
