Lindenwood University Joins Mesa State in WILA

by David Lippman

Lindenwood University has been named the newest member of the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

The Lions are transitioning from NAIA athletics to NCAA Division II. Their men's and women's lacrosse teams previously competed at the club level.

In men's lacrosse, Lindenwood joins Mesa State, Adams State, Notre Dame de Namur, and Dominican (CA). Grand Canyon is leaving the conference before the 2012 season.

In women's lacrosse, Lindenwood joins Mesa State, Adams State, Regis, and Fort Lewis.

Because Lindenwood is located so far east of the other schools in the conference, the Lions will be required to provide an additional opponent for each league team when they visit Missouri.

Both Mesa State teams played against Lindenwood this past season. The Mavericks' men beat the Lions, while the Lions' women beat the Mavericks twice.
