Jim Heaps Talks 2012 Recruiting Class

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Colorado Mesa University men's basketball has signed four players for fall 2012 academic year. Jake Ames, Nick Guana, Kane Gunther and Paul Walter will join the CMU Mavericks. Ames, Guana and Gunther will begin their collegiate careers at CMU and Walter is a junior college transfer.

Jake Ames – 6'2 Guard, Delta CO, Delta High School…Two-time All Conference Western Slope League…Led the Panthers to a league title while averaging a league leading 19 points per game.

Nick Guana – 6'0 Point Guard, Denver CO, Cherry Creek High School...three-year varsity player…First Team All-League…All-State Honorable Mention…Averaged 10 points and four assists per game.

Kane Gunther – 6'2 Guard, Palisade CO, Palisade High School…Three-time All-Conference Western Slope League…2012 Western Slope League Player of the Year...Averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game.

Paul Walter – 6'3 Wing, Vancouver WA, Clackamas Community College…As a Freshman; All-Freshman team, All-Defensive Team and Northwest Athletic Association Community College (NWAACC) All-Academic . As a Sophomore; Runner-up MVP of NWAACC South Division…First Team All-League…NWAACC All-Academic…Averaged 17.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game…Shot 41% from 3-point line (42/103)….Paul Walter Senior was an All-Conference Tight End for the Mavericks in the mid 80's.

Ames, Guana, Gunther and Walter will join Ryan Stephan who committed during early signing period last fall. Stephan is a 6'8” post player from Green Mountain High School in Denver.
