Colton Little Named RMAC Player of the Week
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Colton Little was named the RMAC Player of the Week Tuesday, following a career performance in No. 6 Colorado Mesa's four-game sweep at Adams State.
The senior third baseman was hitting below .300 heading into the series, but broke out over the weekend, hitting .706 with 10 runs, nine RBIs, three doubles, and two homers, including his first career grand slam.
"Something was in the air, obviously," Little said. "But just seeing the ball better and having fun, really. I hadn't really had fun much coming into last weekend, but, something clicked, and I'm having a lot of fun."
Little's performance raised his batting average over 100 points, and should provide plenty of confidence moving forward. He added that it's nice to have the monkey off his back.
Head coach Chris Hanks said they had been working on several things, but the most recent was trying to make Little react more and think less.
"Making him realize that he possesses the ability to hit," Hanks said. "His body knows how to hit. The thought process in hitting is a killer. You get paralysis by analysis, and really what we're trying to do now is just get guys to play without thinking. Just react to things."
The Mavs (23-5, 17-1) will host CSU-Pueblo (15-12, 11-7) in a four-game this weekend at Suplizio Field. Mesa is riding an eight-game winning streak and has won 19 of their last 20 games.
