Colorado Mesa's Russ Martin Talks Training Camp

by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Russ Martin, the new Head Football Coach at Colorado Mesa University, sat down with the NewsChannel5 sports team Wednesday afternoon to discuss expectations and plans for the 2012 football season that begins on August 30th.

"We've been going through the summer with all of the paperwork, administrative stuff, I know we've had a lot of guys staying around and working out," said Martin. "Now it's just the culmination of all of those things and we're just excited."

"Our major expectations come down to us just playing the best that we can play," he said. "There's only one team that we can really worry about and that's us. "It has nothing to do with the weather, it has nothing to do with our opponents, nothing to do with the officials, so what we are going to do is evaluate ourselves."

The Mavericks will open fall camp Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m, coming off a 4-7 season last year.
