by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.- Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team (12-0, 8-0 RMAC) has reached No. 8 in the USA Today/WBCA Division II Coaches' Poll released Tuesday.

CMU has climbed in each of the past three polls, moving up from No. 13 last week in its second highest ranking in school history. CMU, previously Mesa State College, reached a No. 7-ranking in the March 5, 2002 poll.

CMU remains the only Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team to crack the Top 25 poll and boasts the second best undefeated record in the poll and is one of seven teams without a loss.

CMU pushed their record to 12-0, 8-0 in RMAC play, with wins this weekend at home over Colorado Christian (68-58) and Colorado School of Mines (68-53). The Mavericks 12-0 start is the best start in school history, breaking the previous season-opening mark of 11-0 in 1988-1999.

CMU is averaging 75.3 points per game and outscoring their opponent by a +25.9 scoring margin. Four Mavericks are averaging double digits; Kelsey Sigl (17.5 ppg), Katrina Selsor (14.0 ppg), Sharaya Selsor (12.5 ppg) and Bruna Deichmann (10.4 ppg).

The Mavericks will travel to CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs this Friday and Saturday respectively. CSU-Pueblo is one of two RMAC schools receiving votes in the national poll. Metro State is receiving seven votes, while CSU-Pueblo garners two votes.
