Colorado Mesa Begins Preparation for No. 21 Humboldt St.

by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Colorado Mesa University wrapped up their fall camp over the weekend with a successful inter-squad scrimmage. Now, they turn their focus at practice to their season opener, where they will travel to northern California to take on the No. 21 Humboldt St.

The Mavericks lost to the Lumberjacks 29-3 in the opener last year looking for a much stronger showing in 2012.

The biggest question surrounding the practice field is, "Who will be the Mavericks starting quarterback?"

"All three are capable of being good," said Head Coach, Russ Martin. "We will continue to give all of our quarterbacks reps and see how it all pans out."

Redshirt-freshman Deke Cisco and senior transfer, Austin Fales are the two leading candidates for the starting job with junior Jason Haferman looking like he will play a back-up roll.

The Mavericks will practice through Saturday with an off day Sunday, before leaving next Wednesday for their season opener. CMU was 4-7 in 2011 under Joe Ramunno.
