CMU Drops Regular Season Finale to #17 Ft. Lewis 69-59

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Colorado Mesa (17-9, 14-8 RMAC) dropped its final regular season home game against #17 Fort Lewis College (19-6, 16-6 RMAC) 69-59 Saturday night at Brownson Arena.

The loss more than likely will force the Mavericks on the road on Tuesday for the first round of the RMAC post season tournament. The brackets will be released later this evening from the league office.

Fort Lewis held a 33-26 halftime lead and led the entire first half holding as much as an 11 point advantage in the first 20-minutes of action.

CMU opened the second half with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 33-33 and took their first lead of the contest, 37-36 on a Colton Burgon layup. The Skyhawks would regain the lead and after several ties, the coming at 11:13 (43-43), Ft. Lewis went on a 12-6 spurt for a six point advantage (55-49). CMU would get as close as four points with 4:38 left in the game, before the Skyhawks would close out the game out scoring CMU, 12-6.

Mike Melillo led the Mavs with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior Jeff Hart finished with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in his final home game.

Ft. Lewis was led by Marcus Ayala's 22 points and six rebounds.

CMU will play Tuesday evening at a site and opponent to be determined.
