Mavs Sweep Doubleheader from Rangers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Colorado Mesa Mavericks swept a double header from the visiting Regis Rangers today at Canyon View Park, taking the first game 1-0 in 8 innings and the second game 13-4. The Mavericks improve to 18-7 on the season and 12-3 in the RMAC, while Regis falls to 10-13 and 5-9 in RMAC games.

In game one, Maverick Jared Christensen and Ranger Mike McElreath had a pitcher's duel through the games first seven innings. Maverick Mitch Corwin laced a single to left center to snap a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 1-0 win. The teams combined for 11 hits in the game with CMU hitting two in the final inning.

Christensen had his best outing of his Maverick career, throwing a complete-game shutout and allowed 5 hits, walked none and struck out 4. He is now 6-1 on the season.

Mitch Corwin and Colton Little each had two hits in the game.

In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa stole a school record 12 bases en route to a 13-4 win over Regis. Braden Box swiped 3 bases and Jeff Popick, Dustin Fackrell, and Nate Robertson each took 2 bases in the win.

Dylan Evans got the start and lasted 3.1 innings. Evans got into trouble in the 3rd inning and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in the inning. Dakota Behr came in and worked out of the jam and earned his second win of the season. Derek Benham pitched a perfect 7th inning, striking out 3.

Bobby Cozine provided the offense for the Mavericks, going 4-for-4 and hammered his first homerun of the season. Cozine finished with 2 RBIs and a run scored as well.

The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game starting at 12:00pm at Canyon View Park.
