Warrior Classic Day One Second Round

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-The 35th installment of the Warrior Classic began Friday at Central High School featuring 38 teams representing four different states.

On the Western Slope, Dalton Hannigan of Palisade High School breezed through his first three matches in the 126lbs. weight class, earning a bye in round number one, defeating Casey Smith of Griver H.S. 12-1 and pinning Chance Hiatt of Uintah H.S. to advance to round number four.

Grand Junction's Jacob Trujillo also impressed in the 145lbs. weight class. He is now into the semi-finals.

NewsChannel5 Sports Reporter Claire Brandon also spoke with Chuck Pipher, the Head Wrestling Coach at Colorado Mesa University where he discussed the action from his perspective.

The Warrior Classic will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Parade of Champions scheduled to tentatively begin at 7 p.m.
