Steve Phillips Retires After More Than 30 Years of Coaching

Grand Junction-Palisade Head Basketball Coach, Steve Phillips announced his retirement today after more than 30 years of coaching in Colorado.

Phillips will most be remembered for his twenty-one years as the head coach of Central High School, where he won a State Championship in 1990.

After his tenure at Central, Phillips went onto the college ranks for three seasons where he was the head coach of Western State College in Gunnison.

Phillips initially retired in 2004, returning to the Grand Valley to work part-time as an athletic administrator for District 51, before he rejoined the coaching ranks at Palisade High School in 2008- where he has been until today's decision to retire once again.

In total Phillips reached the Final Four three times in his coaching tenure, including the one State Championship in 1990.

He has said that he and his wife will stay in the Grand Junction area, while enjoying some much needed travel, as well as time off to play golf.
