Teamwork at the Heart of Special Olympics

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Athletes participated in School District 51's annual Special Olympics Track and Field Meet Saturday at Grand Junction High School.

"It was just fun," said Barron Farnell. "So many great teammates, and my coach is wonderful. Everything about today was definitely a dream come true."

Awards were given out at the end of the day, but director Julie Fite said the principles weren't lost.

"We had a 100 meter walking event, and a gal's hat blew off," she said. "And another gal stopped to pick it up, so true sportsmanship is exhibited. It warms your heart."
