GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Grand Valley teams opened league play on the hardwood Friday night.

On the boys side, Durango (8-2, 1-0 SWL) defeated Central (5-9, 0-1 SWL) 39-28 at Central High School.

Host Fruita Monument (7-7, 1-0 SWL) cruised to a 60-32 victory over Montezuma-Cortez (3-7, 0-1 SWL).

Grand Junction defeated the Indians 64-48 at Montrose High School.

Meanwhile, the Lady Demons (8-2, 1-0 SWL) edged out the Lady Warriors (5-9, 0-1 SWL) 37-24.

Staying with girls, Fruita Monument blew out Montezuma-Cortez 87-22.

The Lady Tigers suffered their second loss of the season, 43-38 to Class 4A No. 9 Montrose.

Also on the 4A level, the Palisade girls held on to a 43-39 win over Glenwood Springs. The boys (8-3, 6-0) remain undefeated in the Western Slope League with a 71-46 victory over Glenwood Springs (3-8, 2-4).
