No. 3 Palisade Outlasts Durango On Homecoming
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-Junior cornerback, Easton Woods forced a fumble in the final two minutes of Saturday's non-conference match-up between No.3 Palisade (5-0) and Durango (4-1), to seal a Bulldog victory on Homecoming night.
Quarterback Levi Hougland threw in an interception at roughly the four minute mark in the 4th quarter giving Durango a chance to mount a game-winning drive, trailing 28-21.
Two penalties sustained the Demon drive, including a defensive encroachment penalty on a 4th and short situation--giving Durango an automatic first down.
However, Woods forced a fumble and Palisade was able to run the clock out from there.
No. 1 Silver Creek lost to Frederick in Week 5, which could now make next Friday's match-up with Rifle (5-0) a battle between the two top teams in Class 3A when the new CHSAA rankings come out on Monday.
