No. 2 Montrose Preps for No. 1 Monarch
MONTROSE, Colo.--For the first time under head coach Todd Casebier, the Montrose football team is ranked No. 2 in the state 4A poll--just in time for the biggest showdown of the week.
It's a battle between No. 1 and No. 2 as the Indians travel to take on top-ranked Monarch.
Although Montrose (5-0) was not ranked at the start of the season, the team has continued to climb the poll with big wins over Vista Ridge and Pueblo West.
On the other side, the Coyotes are the defending state champions and boast the reigning 4A Player of the Year Ethan Marks. And after the addition of quarterback Jay MacIntyre, son of CU head coach Mike MacIntyre, many argue this team might be even better than they were one year ago.
But no doubt about it, the Coyotes will have their work cut out for them against the Indians' rushing attack.
Montrose is averaging over 340 rushing yards per game, led by Mike Rocha who's having a breakout season with 597 and 13 touchdowns. Furthermore, with Angelo Youngren starting on offense this week, the Montrose ground attack won't be easy to stop.
Regardless of the outcome, Casebier said this will be a good test to see where the team stands at mid-season.
