No. 10 Grand Junction Ready for No. 23 Westminster
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--No. 10 Grand Junction will begin its 2013 postseason run against No. 23 Westminster Friday at Stocker Stadium.
Senior quarterback Tyler Heinsma is the leader of this high-powered offense that is averaging nearly 44 points a game and ranks in the top five in the state in nearly every offensive category.
Heinsma has 1,604 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. On the ground, the 6-foot-2 quarterback is second on the team with 778 rushing yards to go with 13 scores.
"I think we can go as far as we want to go," Heinsma said. "As far as the younger guys are willing to push us during scout team. The varsity guys are just wanting to keep this thing rolling."
The 7-2 Tigers are confident heading into the playoffs, and despite falling in the first round one year ago, Theron Verna has high hopes for the team's run in 2013.
"I think we can make a run deep, honestly," the senior said. "It's all about our fight and our heart. Because we aren't the biggest team, and we know that. We aren't the fastest team. But, when we get together and we play as seniors, something happens where we play up. We always end up doing the right things and being in the right place at the right time, and luck comes along with that."
Kickoff on Friday is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.
