Montrose Capitalizes on Grand Junction Mistakes to Pull Off Upset Win

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Montrose H.S. (5-3, 2-0 SWL) def. Grand Junction H.S. (5-3, 1-2 SWL) 41-21 Friday night, capturing the 2012 Southwestern League Title and most likely a berth in the 2012 Class 4A postseason.

The Indians capitalized on four Grand Junction fumbles in the first quarter, allowing Montrose to jump out to an early 21-0 lead after the first twelve minutes.

Grayson Burris picked up a fumble off of the quarterback/runningback exchange on the Tigers first possession between Tyler Heinzma and Austin Lewis. The sophomore than ran it back for more than a 70-yard touchdown.

Mike Rocha punched in another TD at the 5:13 minute mark in the first quarter making it 14-0.

Grand Junction will close the season next week against Central High School at Stocker Stadium.
