Jessie Hoffschneider Leads New Wrestling Class at CMU

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.- Colorado Mesa University wrestling program announced their list of student-athletes for fall 2012. Following their most successful year on the mat, the Mavericks have brought in a group of very talented athletes to further strengthen the line-up for next season.

At 125 lbs. CMU welcomes Colorado native out of powerhouse Broomfield HS, Jon Stelling from Westminster, CO. (6th at 2012 CO State Tournament). Mac Borrego will be joining the Mavs as a 125 lb. after a stellar career (3x State Finalist, 1x State Champion) at Cleveland High School (Rio Rancho, NM).

Shannon Maris will be joining the Mavericks from Buckley, WA. In high school Maris was a part of 4 Washington State Championship teams, along with placing 6th, 5th, 1st, and 1st individually. Maris will be looking to compete at 141 this season for CMU. Also at 141, Daniel Salazar will be making the trip down the highway after finishing his senior season at Palisade High School (6th, 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd).

The Mavericks are bringing in a pair of talented 149 lb. student-athletes; Colorado native, Nick Swanson joins CMU out of Wheat Ridge, CO after a very successful high school career (4th, 2nd, 1st, and 1st at the CO State Tournament). Cougar Babin (Tomball, TX) will be the 2nd wrestler joining the Mavericks at 149 lbs. Babin joins the Mavs after a successful high school career that included being a 2x state finalist for Klein Oak High School.

CMU has signed several newcomers to help strengthen the upper-middle weights; Aaron Cordova from Rifle High School and Trevor Behr (West Covina, CA/ South Hills HS) Cordova and Behr are promising talents and should help strengthen the 157/165 weight classes.

The Mavs are bringing in a local duo at 165/174. Willy Holdren, from Central High School (2x State placer for CO) and Jesse Hoffschneider (6th, 2nd, 2nd, 1st at the CO State Tournament) from Grand Junction High School.

Jake Eggers (Dodge City HS) will be coming to Grand Junction out of Dodge City, KS. Eggers will look to wrestle in the 184 lb weight class and joins the Mavericks after placing 5th and 3rd in the Kansas State Tournament.

Legend High School graduate (Parker, CO) Brendan Vinyard (4th place at the CO State Tournament) joins the Mavs and is projected to land in the 184/197 weight class range.

Capping off the star-packed recruiting class is heavyweight Carlos Turner, who will be joining CMU after a great career (3rd, 1st in Utah State Tournament, 1st at Reno National Championships, Greco-roman All-American) at Layton, HS in Layton UT.
