Grand Junction's Casey Burns Selected by Colorado Rockies in 2012 MLB Amateur Draft

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Grand Junction H.S.'s Casey Burns was the first local prep player to be selected in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft.

The senior shortstop was taken in the 37th round, as the 1,228th overall pick.

Burns has committed to play next year on the Division I level at St. Mary's College in the West Coast Conference in California.

Zane Hemond of Montrose High School, was also selected on Wednesday. The senior pitcher was taken in the 40th round going to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
