Grand Junction Tops Fruita on Bill Fanning Night

by KREX News Room

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Grand Junction defeated Fruita Monument, 13-5, in the Southwestern League opener Tuesday at Suplizio Field.

It was the first annual Bill Fanning Night, honoring Grand Junction's legendary coach who passed away last month.

The game was tied at three heading into the bottom of the second, but the Tigers responded with five runs, including a bases-clearing triple by first baseman Tristan Lafferty.

Shortstop Owen Taylor hit a two-run bomb in the fourth to put Grand Junction up 10-4; however, a 27 minute power outage halted play in the fifth.

The game resumed, and the Tigers went on to close it out, 13-5, to start off 1-0 in the SWL.
