Grand Junction Falls to Defending State Champions Columbine In The Opening Round of the Class 5A Playoffs

by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-No. 23 Grand Junction (6-4, 2-2 SWL) fell to No. 10 Columbine (7-3), 37-20 Friday afternoon in the opening round of the CHSAA Class 5A State Playoffs.

Junior Bernard McDondle rushed for three touchdowns and 204 yards on 19 carries to lead the Rebels.

Grand Junction turned the ball over four times. Turnovers were the Tigers Achilles heel in 2012, averaging more than three miscues per contest.

The Tigers will return QB Tyler Heinza, RB Austin Lewis and RB/DB Dion Martinez in 2013, but will lose Colorado State commit Austin Berk, and Wyoming commit James Diamonte.
