Grand Junction Bounces Back With Big Win Over Durango

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Grand Junction (5-2, 1-1) defeated Durango (2-4, 0-1) 49-10 Saturday night at Stocker Stadium.

The Tigers were looking to get back on track after dropping last week's rivalry game to Fruita Monument and dropping from the state rankings for the first time this season.

"I think sometimes these guys take the game of football for granted," head coach Robbie Owens said. "I think we did that last week, so our expectation was, 'We've got to get better and better each play, each down that we're out there.'"

Grand Junction went up 21-0 after the first quarter and took a 42-3 halftime lead.

The Tigers held the Demons to just a field goal for the majority of the game until giving up their first touchdown in the fourth quarter.

"We've been playing down to our competition," head coach Robbie Owens said. "I think we've done that all year, and it was nice for us to come out and jump on them pretty fast and still finish the game pretty strong."

The Tigers have a bye next week before traveling to Montrose on October 19.
