Delta Upsets No. 3 Palisade, 26-21

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Delta (6-2, 5-1) upset No. 3 Palisade (6-2, 4-2), 26-21, Friday night at Stocker Stadium.

"People need to watch out for what's going on in Delta," senior quarterback Mitch Whiteside said. "There's a lot more coming."

Leading 20-7 at halftime, the Panthers pulled away with a 19 point lead at the beginning of the third quarter.

However, the Bulldogs wouldn't back down. They scored 14 unanswered points and recovered a late onside kick; however, their late comeback fell short.

Delta's Saul Sanchez intercepted Luke McLean's Hail Mary in the final 18 seconds of the game to seal the deal.

Next week, Palisade will travel to Eagle Valley, and Delta will host Rifle.
