by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--No. 3 Cedaredge defeated No. 10 Hotchkiss 16-12 in the Class 1A semifinals Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins will host No. 1 Buena Vista, who defeated No. 4 Wray 33-8, in the state championship next weekend.

Cedaredge started backup quarterback junior Trent Walker in place of Dante Markley who was out with a concussion, but got past rival Hotchkiss for the second time this season.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bruins got on the board with an 8-yard touchdown run by Carter Wasser. They converted a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.

Hotchkiss made it 8-6 with Josh Hardin's three-yard touchdown run and a failed two point conversion. The Bulldogs end their season at 10-2.

Cedaredge defeated Hotchkiss 21-20 in the regular season for the first time in ten years.
