No. 2 Palisade Crushes Montezuma-Cortez 63-7

by Claire Brandon

PALISADE, Co.--No. 2 Palisade stayed undefeated Saturday with a 63-7 homecoming victory over Montezuma-Cortez.

Junior running back Dalton Hannigan, who turned 17 on Saturday, rushed for over 180 yards and four touchdowns.

"It was a great way to celebrate my birthday," Hannigan said. "Get to spend it with my team and have a great win."

The 5-foot-5 speedster capped his big day off with an 80-yard kickoff return.

"He's short, but he's got a lot of good moves," head coach John Arledge said. "He's physical, so when he hits it, it's usually exactly what we want to see."

The Bulldogs took a 42-0 halftime lead and didn't slow down, while the Panthers couldn't stop Palisade's running attack.

"It's a tradition here," Arledge said. "We're not really pretty. It's all about running the ball and getting physical. Our kids were today, and I was proud of them."

Palisade (3-0) will travel to Battle Mountain (0-3) Friday, Sept. 21. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.
