Rockies Move Jarod Berggren to Tri-City

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Rockies decided to move outfielder Jarod Berggren from Grand Junction to Tri-City, the Class A short-season affiliate, Saturday.

The decision was made after Tri-City center fielder Jaron Shepherd broke his hand during Friday night's opener.

The departure of Berggren leaves six outfielders on the roster, including this year's first and second round picks--David Dahl and Max White. The outfield is also comprised of last year's second round pick, Carl Thomore, Julian Yan, Ryan Garvey and Jeff Popick.

"Obviously with the surplus of outfielders that we have here, I think the move was the right one," Grand Junction Rockies manager Tony Diaz said.

The Colorado native split the 2011 season between Casper and Tri-City.
