Grand Junction Rockies to Hold Open Tryout

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Grand Junction Rockies will hold an open tryout at Suplizio Field Friday, June 15, from 9 a.m. until noon.

General manager Tim Ray said it's a great opportunity for players who feel they've been overlooked to make an impression in front of the entire Rockies minor league coaching staff.

"Maybe this kid throws 95 miles per hour and we don't know about him," Ray said. "Or maybe someone can run from home to first in 3.05 seconds. We haven't found that kid yet, but maybe they're out there.

The tryout is open to the first 30 players who pay the $50 non-refundable fee.

As of Thursday afternoon, Ray said they were over halfway full and expect to have all 30 applicants by the end of the weekend.
