Grand Junction Rockies Clinch Playoff Berth

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Grand Junction Rockies clinched a playoff berth in the team's inaugural season Monday night after Orem's loss.

It's the franchise's first post-season appearance since 2001.

"There's a lot of pride," Tony Diaz said. "So many hours of hard work that took place to get to this point."

Diaz is in his sixth season as manager of the Rockies' rookie affiliate.

"This group right here deserves it," Diaz said. "We've been in a lot of tough spots. Rough starts in both halves, and to overcome what we have, this makes it even more special."

The Rockies defeated the Chukars 9-5 in game three of their four-game set. They'll close out the series Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m.
